Pure hedonism in a glass

Produced from a blend of 98.5% Shiraz and 1.5% Viognier the wine was matured in a combination of new and old French barriques for a period of 30 months. Magnificent impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark red black hue. Heady liqueur like aromas of liquorice, blackberries and dark plum laced with dark chocolate and lightly toasted vanillin oak waft from the glass with subtle nuances of exotic spices as end notes. Incredibly rich and powerful, decadent flavours of liquorice, dark plums, blackberries and black cherries drape themselves across the palate like liquid satin. Beneath the torrent of rich opulent fruit lies nuances of toasty vanillin oak, dark chocolate, subtle dried apricot and exotic spices. Velvet smooth tannins give the wine a silky feel. Finishes exceptionally long and luscious with an aftertaste of liquorice, dark plums, blackberries, ripe black cherries, vanillin oak, dark chocolate and exotic spices.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc 15.5%

Other Reviews….
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Run Rig has a tantalizingly exotic nose of cloves, fenugreek, star anise and cassia with a core of mulberries, baked blackberries and blueberry preserves plus hints of potpourri and dusty earth. The full-bodied palate is multi-layered with tons of spices and berry preserves notes, supported by firm yet velvety tannins and finishing with incredible length and depth. This is a very impressive RunRig. Drink 2018-2035.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

(Two and a half years in 50% new French oak.) Very deep, dark purple/red colour, with an amazing bouquet redolent of star anise, blackberry conserve, preserved plums, graphite and espresso coffee. The palate is staggeringly powerful, concentrated, dense and thickly textured, with a richness and density of licorice, blackberry conserve, black coffee, meaty charcuterie and toasty oak flavours that linger on and on. The length seems endless. The tannins are dense and thickly textured, with high extract lending it a striking texture. There's a lot of everything, and it's in balance. The wine is massive yet retains freshness. An awesome wine and an impressive RunRig. Drink 2021-2051.
