Matured for 14 months in a combination of small and large format French oak. Outstanding colour displaying an impenetrable black dark purple core with a deep dark purple hue. The nose is a touch reserved at first but opens up to yield aromas of plum, blackberry and liquorice with a smoky vanillin cedar overlay followed by some savoury meatiness and light ground pepper end notes. The palate boasts impressive richness along with finesse and an elegant supple mouthfeel. Flavours of dark plums, blackberries and liquorice are intermixed with some meaty characters and subtle smoky vanillin cedar with a peppery finish. Quite savoury with very refined velvety tannins. Long aftertaste of plum, blackberries, liquorice, smoky vanillin cedar, meaty characters and pepper.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews…
Small batch open-fermented, hand-plunged matured for 14 months in small and large format French oak. Deep crimson; a wine bred in the purple; there is an operatic chorus of purple and black fruits with highlights of spice, gentle, yet persistent tannins and oak the final movement. Drink by 2048.
