Named as a tribute to Max Schubert, the inventor of Penfolds Grange, this is yet another extension to Penfolds family. A blend of 76% Shiraz and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon with maturation taking place in 5% new American oak with the balance in seasoned American & French oak hogsheads for a period of 12 months.
Excellent colour displaying an inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. Pronounced ripe blackberry and blackcurrant aromas merge with liquorice over some dark chocolate, vanillin cedar and faint tobacco notes. The palate is a big mouthful of lush juicy ripe blackberries, cassis and liquorice with vanillin oak and spice undertones. Plushly textured with velvety tannins. Long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberries, ripe blackcurrant, vanillin oak and spice.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc 14.5%

Other reviews….
76/24% from McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully and Robe, matured for 12 months in American oak (5% new). Excellent colour introduces a complex, yet seamless and balanced, medium to full-bodied wine. There is a savoury/earthy backdrop to the blackberry, blackcurrant and plum fruit; both tannins and oak are fused with the fruit flavours, making this a poor man's Bin 389. How the world turns full circle. Drink by 2033.
