First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend that includes the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway & Langhorne Creek.
Matured for 12 months in seasoned American oak hogsheads. Excellent colour with a totally opaque inky black core and a very deep dark purple black hue. Nosing offers up aromas of ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark chocolate over vanillin cedar and faint mocha with spice end notes. Rich and plushly textured the palate features generous flavours of ripe blackberry and dark chocolate followed by some liquorice, vanillin confectionary and spicy pepper. Dry, slightly chewy finish with the very fine grained tannins possessing an underlying solidness. Aftertaste of liquorice, vanillin confectionary and spicy pepper.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
