2013 Palacios Remondo La Montesa

Once a conventional Rioja producer based on industrially-farmed Tempranillo, nowadays the vineyards of Palacios Remondo are organic and bio-dynamically grown low-crop plantings of Garnacha, with a scattering of white Viura. The 2013 La Montesa is produced from 85% Garnacha with the balance made up of predominately Tempranillo purchased from good growers near Haro on the north shore of the Ebro. Maturation takes place in a combination of new to 4 year old barriques for a period of 12 months.

Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Fragrant aromatics of ripe dark cherries and dark raspberries layered with liquorice are followed by subtle nuances of earth and spice. Light to medium weight with excellent fruit purity, a soft juicy textural feel and a bright finish, the palate is decorated with delicious dark cherry and raspberry flavours over a backdrop of liquorice, vanillin cedar, subtle earth, incense infusions and spice. Gentle finely grained tannins combine with some fresh acidity on the finish. Long aftertaste of juicy dark cherries, dark raspberries, liquorice, spicy vanillin cedar and earthy incense.
