The thirteenth release of this outstanding Shiraz, the 2013 Mr. Riggs Shiraz will surely rival the superb 2010 and 2012 wines in years to come. Produced from a blend of four great McLaren Vale Shiraz vineyards; Piebald Gully, Beal, Duckchase and Bradens. The vineyards are owned/managed by some of the best-known McLaren Vale growers, namely Ben Riggs (Piebald Gully), Beal’s (Monapilla), Wright Family (Duckchase) and Joch Bosworth (Bradens). Components from all four vineyards were fermented in traditional open fermenters, and following pressing, finished their fermentation in oak of which approximately 80% was French and the balance American, 40% of which was new oak. Vineyard parcels were kept separate during fermentation and maturation with blending taking place three months prior to bottling.

A stunning Shiraz from the McLaren Vale Maestro Ben Riggs that showcases the district's pristine fruit in a powerful yet refined manner.

Pours black as night with an impenetrable inky black core and a very deep dark purple black hue. Alluring aromas of subtle violets, liquorice, ripe blackberries and dark plums excite the olfactory senses with underlying nuances of dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice also present. Powerful, intensely concentrated and possessing sublime fruit purity the palate is saturated with ripe blackberries, liquorice and dark plum flavours that despite their almost overwhelming richness have a sense of refinement. More subtle dark chocolate, vanillin cedar and spice characters follow on. Excellent structural qualities with robust yet cleverly concealed tannins buffering the huge core of expressive fruit. Texturally polished and deftly balanced the wine finishes with an exceptionally long conclusion of liquorice, ripe blackberries, subtle dark chocolate, vanillin oak, faint mocha and spice.
