2013 Katnook Estate Coonawarra Merlot

Matured for 19 months in 66% French (38% new) and 34% older American oak. Opaque dark red black colour with a very dark red hue. Lifted aromas of ripe black cherries and liquorice are followed by some dark chocolate, toasty vanillin oak, light earth and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate is filled with dark ripe fruit flavours of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and a dash of liquorice over a back drop of toasty vanillin cedar, earth and spice. Soft round mouthfeel although there’s a touch of bitterness on the finish. Very fine grained velvety tannins. Aftertaste of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate, vanillin cedar, light scorched earth and spice.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
