2013 Hugo Reserve Shiraz

Spectacular inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. Powerful aromas of liquorice and ripe blackberries bound from the glass closely followed by dark plum, toasty vanillin cedar, subtle fennel and blackpepper. Rich concentrated flavours of liquorice, black cherries and dark plums are married to a strong dose of toasty vanillin cedar with scorched earth and spicy pepper characters also evident. Velvety tannins have a sturdy underbelly. Very powerful with a long finish of liquorice, ripe black cherries, dark plum, toasty vanillin oak, scorched earth and pepper. Despite its richness and power some may find the toasty oak component shades the fruit a little too much.
