2013 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

Giaconda’s Estate Vineyard Chardonnay is planted on the cooler south-facing exposure. The wine is fully barrel fermented with approximately 30% new French oak and allowed to go through malolactic fermentation, which adds more complexity and structure. This wine is aged in barrel for 22 months, deep underground in Giaconda’s granite maturation cave.

Brilliant pale straw colour with a greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. The nose opens with intense ripe white peach, dried honey and citrus aromas followed by nuances of cashew, flinty struck match notes and a subtle biscuity toastiness. Medium to full bodied, moderately creamy in texture yet fresh on the finish, the palate features flavours of white peaches and ripe pears over a background of cashew, funky flinty characters, toastiness and spice. Clean dry finish. Long aftertaste of white peach, pear, cashew, subtle dried honey, toast and spice. Slightly lighter and fresher than the 2012 but will fill out and build with bottle age.
