2012 Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz

Matured in a combination of 100 litre French and American oak octaves for 21 months. Totally opaque inky black core with a bright dark red black tinged hue. Elevated aromas of ripe black cherries and liquorice laced with new leather are followed by vanillin cedar and spice. Rich, opulent and velvety textured, the palate is full bodied but not as large scaled as previous vintages showing more refinement. Flavours of blackberries, black cherries and liquorice are overlaid by a leathery component which is a touch too prominent at this early stage of development. Vanillin oak, earth and spice nuances are also present. Solidly built but velvet like tannins. Long aftertaste of blackberries, liquorice, black cherries, leather and spicy vanillin oak.
