Yalumba’s new flagship wine, the ‘Caley’ is a classic marriage of two noble grape varieties sourced from two of Australia’s greatest wine regions, Coonawarra and Barossa. A blend of 52% Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Barossa Cabernet and 21% Barossa Shiraz the wine is matured for 22 months in a mix of 31% new French barriques and hogsheads, 22% one-year old French barriques with the balance in older French barriques and hogsheads.

The wine impresses from start to finish featuring an impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black hue. The nose combines potency with refinement offering up aromas of blackcurrant, subtle blackberry and liquorice gently kissed with notions of violet, tobacco, vanillin cedar, spice and a very faint whiff of bay leaf. Rich, perfectly poised and exceptionally concentrated this sophisticated blend marries perfectly ripened blackcurrant, blackberry, liquorice and mulberry fruit to an elegant frame. Underscoring the gorgeous layers of sleek silken textured fruit are elements of cedary tobacco characters, light earth, subtle bay leaf infusions and spice. Very polished, velvet like yet structured tannins. Exceptional power and depth with a very long finish of ripe blackcurrant, liquorice, mulberry, lightly dusted cedar, tobacco, faint bay leaf and spice.
Drink over the next 10-15 years.

Other Reviews….
52% Coonawarra cabernet, 27% Barossa cabernet and 21% Barossa shiraz, open-fermented with wild yeast (three days) then cultured yeast. Bright, deep crimson-purple; the bouquet instantly semaphores a glorious profusion of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruits, flavours which are precisely mirrored by the palate. But it's the way this beautiful wine caresses the mouth that is so special, the tannins polished, the oak judged to perfection. Drink by 2042.
