2012 Vina Cobos Bramare Rebon Vineyard Malbec

New World Pedal to Metal Malbec with mega star winemaker Paul Hobbs Napa stamp all over it.

One of the great traits of the Vina Cobos Malbecs is the incredible depth of colour the wines possess and this is no exception delivering an impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark purple black hue. Cropped at 3.79 tonnes per acre from the 9 year old 'Rebon' site, and bottled unfined and unfiltered this exceptional Malbec was matured for 17 months in a combination of 60% French (100% new) and 40% American oak (5% new). Explosive aromatics of ripe black cherries, blackberry liqueur, cassis and liquorice burst out of the glass with underlying scents of dark chocolate, vanillin cedar, meaty characters and spice. A superb sniff that’s almost intoxicating. Enormous palate presence with rich densely textured flavours of blackberry liqueur, liquorice, dark chocolate and cassis drenching the palate. Nuances of vanillin cedar, subtle meatiness and spice are also present. Glorious concentration and power, velvety tannins, finishing with a long powerful aftertaste of blackberry liqueur, cassis, liquorice and spicy vanillin cedar.
