Sourced from the Tscharke vineyards located in the premium Barossa appellations of Stonewell, Gnadenfrei and Greenock Creek the Shiraz fruit intended for this blend is picked early whilst encouraging optimum flavour accumulation. Thirty percent of the fruit is fermented as whole bunch in open top fermenters with oak maturation taking place in puncheons and hogsheads for a period of 12 months. 20% being new French oak.

Plush and Long, this a Barossa Shiraz loaded with personality.

Winemaker Damien Tscharke suggests that such was the quality of the 2012 vintage in the Barossa that it may prove to be his best vintage ever. The cooler dry growing season delivered outstanding fruit quality. “There was incredible balance this year with great fruit weight and better than average acidity levels. The yields and quality across our three estates was consistent and like all ‘even’ years 2012 will be classified as another great vintage.”

Superb colour saturation – totally opaque black dark purple colour with deep black purple red hue. Liquorice, black plum and black cherry scents leap out of the glass overlaying some subtle toastiness, vanillin confectionary and spice. Full bodied yet brilliantly poised the palate possesses a rich supple mouthfeel with a long spicy finish. Opulent flavours of black cherry, blackberry and liquorice greet the palate followed by some subtle smoked meat like characters and a spicy, peppery finish. Superb depth and balance between all the component parts. Velvet smooth tannins with very long black cherry, liquorice, subtle smoky oak and spicy pepper aftertaste.

Cellar 5-6 years (2018-2021).
