“The greatest Sena ever.” – James Suckling

The wine is the result of a collaboration between the late Robert Mondavi and Chile’s Eduardo Chadwick. In the last two decades, several ambitious Chilean producers have attempted to define the limits of Chile's viticultural potential by producing an ultimate expression of terroir. Known as 'icon wines', the success of the most famous example, 'Sena', is partly attributable to the flamboyant promotional efforts of its creator, Eduardo Chadwick, a fifth generation family member of Vina Errazuriz. In particular, it was Chadwick's organising of international tastings and seminars that put Sena in the limelight. Starting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Berlin, Chadwick invited forty of Europe's leading wine writers, critics, sommeliers and trade to taste 'blind' a selection of the world's finest wines, including Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, Chateau Lafite, Sassacaia and Tignanello from the 2000 and 2001 vintages. The event promised a David-and-Goliath-style contest between Chile and some of France's and Italy's top wine estates...and it was Chile that bagged three of the top five scores. Sena came out on top.

Possessing all the attributes of world class Cabernet this stunning wine has amazing richness and structure, yet is refined in nature remaining relatively light on its feet.

A complex blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Carmenere, 12% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot with maturation taking place in French oak, 70% of which was new, for a period of 22 months. Magnificent totally opaque inky black dark purple colour with a very deep dark purple crimson red hue. Pronounced aromas of blackcurrants intermixed with black cherries are overlaid by cedary tobacco characters with notes of liquorice, earth and spice following showing great complexity. Full bodied the palate possesses tremendous richness, depth and structure with mouthfilling flavours of blackcurrants, subtle black cherries, black olives, cedar, tobaccoy cigar box like characters, earth and spice. Firm, yet fine grained tannins provide the perfect framework. Very long and persistent aftertaste of blackcurrant, black olives, cedar, tobacco, earth and spice. This will evolve into something special in 10-15 years.
Alc 14%

Other Reviews….
A phenomenal red with aromas of blackberries, licorice, sandalwood and hot stones that turns to cigar box and hints of sweet tea. Full body, incredible depth and concentration, yet there's also agility and playfulness to this. Long, fascinating and balanced. It talks to you. The greatest Seña ever. (Winemaker and owner agree.) There's wonderful purity and beauty. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Better in 2017.
