First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. The wine is now a multi region blend with fruit coming primarily from McLaren Vale, Wrattonbully, Langhorne Creek & Barossa Valley. Maturation took place in seasoned American oak hogsheads for a period of 13 months.

Totally opaque black purple colour with a dark purple black tinged hue. Fragrant aromas of liquorice and ripe blackberries are to the fore overlaying some smoky vanillin oak and black pepper. Full bodied with a fleshy mouth feel the palate features rich liquorice and blackberry flavours over smoky oak and vanillin confectionary with a peppery finish. A little restrained on the finish at this point in time. Sturdy but velvet like tannins concluding with a peppered liquorice, blackberry and smoky oak aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc. 14.5%
