Mark Maxwell and his family established Maxwell wines in 1979 and for many years were best known for their Honey Mead (which is still available). The Silver Hammer takes its name from a famous song by four famous performers from the 1960's (if you can't guess who they are, you are probably too young to be reading wine reviews!). The wine was matured for 16 months in seasoned 300 litre American oak barrels.

‘A striking example of opulently textured rich McLaren Vale Shiraz at an outrageous price.’

Totally opaque inky black crimson colour with very deep dark purple black tinged hue. Aromas of ripe blackberry and liquorice exude from the glass followed by some dark chocolate, mocha and vanillin oak. A voluptuously textured palate follows on flooding the mouth with rich opulent dark fruits including ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark chocolate followed by some vanillin oak and a spicy back palate. Velvet smooth tannins compliment the wines immediate drinkability. Plush and deep with a long ripe blackberry, liquorice, vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years (2013-2018).
