This is our first shipment of Los Vascos’ straight Carmenere and its distinctive savouriness is sure to make it a new favourite amongst South American wine lovers.

The 2012 vintage was unusually dry with only 58% of the normal annual average rainfall received. These conditions helped to control the natural vigour of the Carmenere vines and along with some leaf removal and management of water stress resulted in harvested fruit of excellent ripeness. Maturation took place in French oak barrels for a period of 12 months of which 20% were new.

Opaque black purple colour with a dark purple hue. Nosing reveals perfectly ripened blackcurrant top notes followed by some dark cherry, cedar, subtle earthy tobacco like characters and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate balances its richness against an elegant mouthfeel beautifully delivering flavours of ripe blackcurrants and dark cherries over a cedary background of light tobacco and spice. The tobacco characters in this Carmenere being more subdued than that which the Arboleda traditionally shows. Excellent length with very fine grained, superbly managed tannin integration. A long aftertaste of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedary tobacco and spice completes the picture.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
