If you're looking for testaments to the once-in-a-decade kind of quality that 2012 is offering from South Australia, then the best place to realise it is in the entry level wines. From the ground up, it is a year to cellar, a year to drink, a year to buy.

For those who don't want to spend a fortune on good wine, Heartland consistently deliver incredibly rich, flavour filled reds at prices that keep you coming back. Sourced from predominately Langhorne Creek this wine also contains a 14% Limestone Coast component which accounts for the minty overtones in the wine. 2012 was a year of exceptional quality in Langhorne Creek with late September frosts reduced yields between 10 to 40%. A long and relatively cool ripening season allowed for full development of the fruit flavours allowing the wines retain their natural acidity while conveying the full range of fruit flavours and achieving deep colours. Maturation took place in a combination of French and selected American oak barrels ranging from new to 4 year old hogsheads for a period of 14 months.

Opaque black crimson red colour with deep dark purple crimson red hue. Dark chocolate and liquorice aromas are overlaid with mint followed by some subtle vanillin confectionary. Rich succulent fruit swamps the palate with mouthfilling flavours of ripe dark plum, touches of dark chocolate and liquorice intermingling with spearmint followed by some confectionary and hints of blackpepper. Excellent depth with very fine grained well integrated almost velvet like tannins. Long persistent aftertaste of dark plums, liquorice, mint and light black pepper.
Cellar 4-5 years (2017-2018).
Alc 14.5%
