Amon Ra is Ben Glaetzer’s flagship Shiraz named after an Egyptian God who was considered to be the King of all Gods. Ben describes the 2012 vintage as “one of the greats…”- the ideal weather conditions creating parcels of Shiraz with great varietal definition, flavour and colour concentration. Fruit for the 2012 Amon Ra was sourced from a range of low yielding (1 tonne per hectare) vineyards, aged between 50-130 years old, with a strong emphasis on fruit quality, rather than simply selecting parcels of fruit because they were from old vines. The wine was matured for 14 months in 100% new oak of which 5% was American and 95% French. It was bottled unfiltered.

Classic Ben Glaetzer

Ben Glaetzer needs no introduction. This is his flagship wine from a vintage that deserves a place in your cellar. Very impressive colour saturation with a totally opaque inky black purple core and very deep dark purple hue. Perfumed aromas of liquorice, blackberry, well integrated toasty vanillin oak, confectionary, very subtle earth and spice all meld together on the exquisite bouquet. Showing magnificent power and richness a wealth of ripe blackberries, cassis and liquorice burst onto the palate in decadent style followed by some dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice. Velvet smooth but solidly built tannins provide the perfect level of structural support. Outstanding depth and persistence with exceptionally long blackberry, cassis, liquorice, vanillin oak and spice aftertaste. Classic Ben Glaetzer.
