The 2011 Struie saw 18 months in seasoned French oak. It opens with a totally opaque inky black colour with deep black purple red hue. The nose is a little subdued at first with aromas of blackberry, plum and liquorice slowly emerging overlaid by some toasty oak with hints of spice as end notes. Rich, full bodied and plushly textured the palate has flavours of ripe blackberry and liquorice followed by some dark plum with a toasty oak overlay that is a touch too prominent finishing with some vanillin spice on the back palate. Velvet smooth tannins. Long dark plum, liquorice, vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
Alc 15%
