2011 Rubiolo Chianti Classico

A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot with 70% of the wine vinified in older large format oak and 30% in stainless steel vats.

Very deep dark red black colour with a dark red hue. Lifted aromas of dark cherries merge with subtle black olives and dried herbs followed by lightly toasted earthy cedar and spice making for a complex sniff. Medium weighted this Chianti has a good dose of new world flesh and richness whilst still retaining some of its old world rustic charm. Generous ripe dark cherry flavours fill the mouth with an overlay of spicy dried herbs and some meatiness underpinned by lightly toasted cedar and earth. Beautifully balanced with very fine grained tannins and a savoury mouthfeel. Long aftertaste of dark cherries, dried herbs, lightly scorched earth and spicy cedar.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
