Finding Australian Merlot that isn't relatively anemic is difficult. Penny's Hill have consistently gotten it right with their fleshy South Australian interpretation sourced from four acres of twenty year old vines on ‘Bay of Biscay’ soil, the same relatively infertile cracking, grey-black dirt which yields the extraordinary Penny's Hill 'Cracking Black Shiraz'. Aged in a combination of new and old barrels for a period of 15 months, just under 1000 cases have been produced.

Opaque dark crimson red black colour with dark red hue. The nose displays scents of ripe dark plum, liquorice, some ripe mulberry and spice. Generous in both weight and flavour the palate possesses ripe dark mulberry, dark cherry, some underlying cedary tobacco like characters and spice. Very soft fine grained tannins. Excellent length with long ripe mulberry, spicy cedar and tobacco aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years (2015-2016).
Alc 14.5%
