2011 Penny's Hill Cracking Black Shiraz

Totally opaque black crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red purple hue. The nose is quite lifted with scents of ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice emanating from the glass followed by some meaty peppery end notes. Full bodied the palate possesses flavours of blackberry and liquorice followed by some spicy vanillin oak and strong blackpepper characters on the back palate. Slightly dryish on the finish with fine grained tannin structure. Long blackberry, liquorice, spice and meaty blackpepper aftertaste. A slightly more elegant version of Penny’s Hill Shiraz but that has to be expected given the cooler vintage conditions. An excellent effort.
