2011 Le Volte Dell'Ornellaia

A very approachable Tuscan blend made up of 50% Merlot, 30% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was aged for 10 months in barriques ranging from 2-4 years old which had previously been used for the ageing of Ornellaia. Opaque dark crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red hue. The nose exhibits good intensity with an intriguing aromatic profile of blackcurrant, black cherries, a hint of liquorice, cedar, earth and spice. Medium weight the palate combines elegance with a good level of richness delivering flavours of ripe blackcurrant, some black cherries, cedary earth like qualities and spice. Dryish, slightly dusty, but otherwise very fine grained tannins. Excellent length with medium to long blackcurrant, subtle black cherry, earth and spicy cedar aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2013-2017).
