Across Western Australia in general, 2011 was remarkable for how completely different it was to much of South East Australia. As Micheal Kerrigan of Hayshed Hill Vineyard in Margaret River explains, "It has always been of some consternation to us in the West that the quality of Australian vintages are assessed on what happens in the middle and east of the country, with Western Australia so far away and influenced by completely independent weather systems we often experience vastly different conditions that shape the quality of our vintages and wines." Wine scribes have also contributed to these misapprehensions, drawing sweeping conclusions on vintage quality even before most wines have hit the market. Two scales apply: It's easy to forget that Australia's wine growing regions are vast. Inversely, when it's raining on your block, it doesn't necessarily mean your neighbour's getting wet. With any vintage report, reserve judgment until you've tried at least some of the wines yourself.
The Yard is one in a range of single vineyard wines, sourcing fruit from family vineyards from Western Australia's top wine districts.

Totally opaque black crimson colour with deep dark crimson black hue. Showing excellent intensity the nose offers up aromas of ripe blackcurrant intermixed with cedar and a touch of dark chocolate followed by some tobacco leaf and spice. Superb perfectly ripened Cabernet flavours flood the palate blackcurrant and ripe black cherry are overlaid by some cedary cigar box like characters with a spicy dry finish. Outstanding depth, richness and concentration. The tannins are solidly built but fine grained providing excellent support. Very long blackcurrant, black cherry, cedary cigar box and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 6-8 years (2019-2021).
Alc 14.2%

Other Reviews….
"...Medium to full red-purple; stylistically, this is entirely different to the Cherubino Margaret River Cabernet; here the blackcurrant fruit of Frankland River leaps out of the glass, vibrant and pure, intense and penetrating. That said, there is also a symbiotic union between the tannins, fruit and oak. Drink by 2036.+." 96 James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion
