This lighter coloured style of rosé is akin to what the French call "Vin Gris", usually enjoyed with Summer Mediteranean dishes like grilled fish, tian (a cold vegetable flan) and salads, but also as an aperitif with finger foods. Made as a "Rose de presse" (juice straight off the press), the grapes are pressed rather than macerated (as is the case in a "Rose de Saignee"). Chateau Puech Haut employ Grenache and Cinsault for this wine, which is fermented in thermo regulated stainless steel over twenty days to increase flavour intensity.
Translucent very light pale damask pink colour. Fabulous nose, one rarely comes across a Rose with this sort of intensity. Lifted aromas of raspberry, ripe strawberry, rose petal and Turkish delight leap out of the glass. The palate possesses excellent mouthfeel, flavour concentration and depth. Ripe raspberry, strawberry, plum juice and spice flavours fill the mouth. Clean dry finish. Excellent length with medium to long aftertaste of spicy raspberry, strawberry and plum juice.
Drink now (2012).
