The long awaited return of our best selling sweet white Bordeaux is finally here. After declining to take up any of the 2010 (it was a fatter, heavier version and not quite up to our high expectations) we have a shipment of the much fresher and more highly regarded 2011 vintage just landed.

Sauternes enthusiasts have long known that across the Garonne River they can procure what is arguably the greatest value wine in sweet white Bordeaux, which in exceptional years produces a wine equal to Sauternes which may sell at two or three times its price. This bizarre anomaly is the Chateau Fayau Cadillac, and although the wine cannot be labelled Sauternes as such, it is essentially identical in every way.

Rich and luscious with a balanced freshness this is a vinous bargain when one considers the prices of top Sauternes houses

Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged pale gold edges and a watery hue. Intense honeyed peach scents rise from the glass with marmalade, ripe apricot and spice also present. Rich, luscious palate flavours of honeyed peaches and apricots fill the mouth over some light marmalade, citrus and spice. Excellent length although not quite the weight or concentration of top flight Sauternes. Good fresh finish with a long honeyed peach, apricot, marmalade and spice aftertaste.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.
