Wirra Wirra sources fruit for the RSW Shiraz from a combination of owned vineyards and premium McLaren Vale growers consisting of 40-65 year old vines which are typically low in vigour, producing low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. Soils range from red clay and limestone to deep sands over ironstone base.
Matured in 100% French oak, each vineyard block was individually assessed for barrel selection and matured separately for 19 months in predominantly Burgundian oak prior to blending. New oak consisted of 40% of the blend and the balance was a combination of 2–3 year old oak.

Totally opaque inky black purple colour with deep dark purple black hue. Perfumed nose with ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum overlaid by some vanillin oak with liquorice allsorts, confectionary and a touch of spice in the background. Full bodied the palate possesses an abundance of rich ripe fruit with flavours of ripe blackberry and liquorice flooding the mouth amply supported by some dark chocolate, vanillin confectionary and subtle spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Outstanding depth with very long ripe blackberry, liquorice, subtle vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years (2017-2018).
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews….
Deep crimson purple, both the bouquet and palate command immediate attention exhibiting a near-perfect paradigm for McLaren Vale shiraz. Medium to full bodied, but without any obvious alcohol warmth it has an unbroken stream of black fruits, licorice, dark chocolate, cedary oak and fine, ripe tannins, the balance line and length reflect the very good vintage and equally good winemaking. The 20 year drinking span is nominal for the wine will undoubtedly thrive well past 2030.
