With yields reduced to less than one tonne per acre the 2010 vintage has resulted in a welcome return to the Water Wheel Shiraz we remember so well!

Wheel's Shiraz vines were established in 1972. The Cumming family purchased the winery in 1989, and Peter Cumming, who has been responsible for so many of Water Wheel's best wines remains involved. The Water Wheel vineyards traditionally yield around 2 tonnes per acre, however, with the 2010 vintage yields were reduced to less than one tonne per acre resulting in a more concentrated fruit profile. The wine was matured in new and 1 & 2 year old American Hogsheads for 9-12 months. Opaque black purple colour with deep dark purple crimson red hue. The nose presents an aromatic bouquet of ripe dark plum, liquorice and confectionary with some toasty vanillin oak end notes. Rich and voluptuous the palate is back to what made this wine famous. Mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry, plum and liquorice abound supported by some vanillin oak. Velvet smooth tannins. Good depth with long liquorice, dark plum, vanillin confectionary and spice aftertaste.
