'Valle Secreto' are a small producer with 36 Ha of low cropping vines (mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Carmenere) They’re committed to producing wines from varieties which “express their potential with the local climate and special characteristic of the soil they are in.” Not that the Chileans don’t believe some places are better than others to grow grapes. 'Alto Cachapoal' is located in the newly designated (although still voluntary) Andes geographic zone and is warmer and drier than the coastal regions, and has greater diurnal temperature variation than vineyards on the wide valley floor. This lends itself to Shiraz in the elegant, pepper spectrum and Cabernet akin to Barossa Valley styles from leaner years.

“Chile’s answer to Australian Cabernet Shiraz, with the additional X Factor of Carmenere”

A blend of 44% Syrah, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Carmenere that has been matured for 18 months in new French oak. Totally opaque black dark crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red hue. The nose delivers perfumed aromas of violets, blackcurrant, liquorice and mulberry with an overlay of cedary tobacco and spice. Full bodied the palate perfectly counter balances richness against an elegant structure with mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry supported by some underlying cedary tobacco, earth and spice. Superb depth with dryish but very fine grained and perfectly integrated tannins. Excellent long blackcurrant, cedary tobacco, earth and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years (2018-2019).
Alc 14.5%
