2010 Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz

Bella’s Garden is a blend of Two Hands’ best shiraz barrels sourced from the Barossa Valley. The wine is matured for a period of 20 months in a combination of new (15%), one, two, three and four year old French oak hogsheads.

Outstanding impenetrable inky black colour with very deep black purple hue. The nose offers up a perfumed sniff of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plum followed by some vanillin confectionary and a touch of spice. Full bodied the palate delivers rich mouthcoating flavours of luscious blackberry, dark plum and liquorice followed by some dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice. The tannins have a velvet smooth appearance yet are quite structured providing an ample framework to the layers of fruit. Exceptionally long ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and vanillin spice aftertaste.

Two Hands does well with a variety of grapes but excels with Shiraz. Owner Michael Twelftree and winemaker Matt Wenk aim for a house style that emphasizes regional character with their Garden series, a collection of six different Shirazes from top growing regions in South Australia and Victoria. The Bella’s Garden bottling consistently ranks among the best, with fruit sourced from 20 vineyards throughout the Barossa Valley. Wenk uses mainly older, 300-liter French hogshead barrels to preserve the complex fruit flavors. Pepper, clove and plum flavors weave through dense dark cherry and roasted plum fruit, melding together smoothly on the complex and expansive finish. A big wine with depth and harmony. Best from 2013 through 2020.
