The name Woodcutter’s stems from owner/winemaker David Powell’s several years spent working the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack in the Torbreck forest. The fruit for the Woodcutter’s Shiraz is sourced from hand harvested and hand tended plots throughout the Northwestern Barossa Valley and fermentation takes place in a combination of cement, wooden and stainless steel vats for 6-7 days. It is then basket pressed to well seasoned hogsheads and French oak foudres for 12 months and bottled without fining or filtration.

In terms of it’s richness and texture, the 2010 bears close resemblance to the best selling 2008 vintage.

Outstanding youthful super saturated inky black purple colour with deep black purple hue. The nose is quite youthful as expected but delivers good intensity and varietal character with aromas of ripe dark plum and blackberry followed by some black cherry and spice. Full bodied and possessing tremendous richness and concentration for it’s price point, this is Torbreck Woodcutter’s Shiraz at it’s opulent best. The palate is loaded with plumb fleshy flavours of plummy blackberry, dark cherry and spice. Velvet smooth tannins with long aftertaste of blackberry, dark plum and spice.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Alc 14.5%
