The modern Australian Wine Industry can be described as a tapestry of Western Culture, peppered with Eastern influences. The early European migrants arrived in Australia in the mid 1840s, many coming to avoid religious persecution. The hardships endured are unimaginable by contemporary standards, yet these pioneers from Germany, Italy, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Switzerland, Ukraine, Russia and Poland created the basis of the wine industry that has taken on the world, through its superb flavour packed wines.

‘Decadently Rich with a plush fleshy texture.’

The Schild story dates back to 1866 when the family immigrated from Poland – as part of an exodus from religious persecution. For many years the Schilds toiled the harsh farmlands of the Mallee country near Lameroo. In 1952, a 40 acre farm was purchased in the Barossa Valley, the Three Springs farm, which had a small vineyard included. Over the years the Schilds expanded their holding, growing fruit mainly for other people. In 1998, the bold step of crushing 7 tonnes of grapes was made, which produced 450 cases of wine.

Today the Schild’s holdings extend to over 380 acres and they have recently constructed their own on site winery. Sourced from a single vineyard the 2010 Ben Schild Reserve Shiraz was fermented in small open fermenters before being matured in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak for 24 months and then undergoing a further 24 months maturation in bottle prior to release.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red black hue. The nose exhibits pronounced ripe blackberry and liquorice scents intermixed with some dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice notes. Full bodied with a densely textured voluptuous mouthfeel the palate possesses copious richness with flavours of dark chocolate, ripe blackberries and liquorice completely saturating the palate followed by some toasty vanillin oak and spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Excellent depth with long ripe blackberry, dark chocolate bullet, toasty vanillin oak and spice aftertaste.
