The Malpas Road Vineyard comprises 4ha of 20 year old Merlot Vines planted in the ‘Cracking Black’ Bay of Biscay clay soil on the flat land of McLaren Vale. The black soil rests on a calcified base and cracks in the summer heat, severing some roots and controlling the natural vigour. The result is a perfumed and structured Merlot – a rarity in Australia at this price point.

Totally opaque black dark crimson red colour with deep dark crimson red hue. The nose displays good perfumed lift with notes of ripe mulberry, dark cherry, cedar, a hint of tobacco and spice. Medium to full bodied the palate displays impressive richness and weight with generous mouthfilling flavours of ripe mulberry, tobacco, cedar and spice. Very fine grained tannins with long mulberry, spicy tobacco and cedar aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2011-2015)
Alc 14.5%
