Paul Conti is one of the pioneers of the Western Australian wine industry having established Paul Conti wines back in the late 1960’s when there were a mere handful wineries in the state. Initially set up by his parents as selling bulk wines to European immigrants Paul went onto lay the foundations for a modern winery and release his award winning Mariginiup Hermitage [now called shiraz] – which is produced from old non-irrigated shiraz vines planted in 1958. Today his son Jason has taken over the winemaking reigns.

A Western Australian Classic this is a unique example of Old Vine Shiraz that possesses superb length, persistence and opulent fruit.

For over 50 years, Shiraz has been produced from Paul Conti’s Mariginiup vineyard which is located on the unique Tuart soils over limestone in close proximity to the Indian Ocean. Matured in 50% new American oak, 25% new French and 25% seasoned French oak. Opaque black crimson colour with deep dark crimson red hue. Aromas of liquorice and ripe dark plum are to the fore followed by some blackberry, blackpepper and spice notes showing very good intensity. Full bodied the palate delivers opulent flavours of liquorice, blackberry, ripe dark plum, blackpepper and confectionary. Velvet smooth tannins. Superb length and persistence with very long ripe blackberry, liquorice, blackpepper and confectionary aftertaste.
Cellar 4-5 years (2016-2017).
