This is a tribute to winemaker, Ben Riggs' great great-great grandfather, John William Riggs, who whether of necessity, or perhaps as a reflection of his entrepreneurial leanings, wagged school and from the age of seven commenced working for a living at the princely rate of one shilling a week. This was only a minor inconvenience for “The Truant” who signed with an “X”. In time, he became master of one of South Australia’s outstanding farming enterprises.

A skillfully crafted big, rich, joosy red from McLaren Vale's King of Shiraz.

Made with 30% new French oak this wine displays a totally opaque black crimson colour with black dark crimson purple hue. The nose displays excellent intensity with lifted aromas of inky black cherry and blackberry followed by some liquorice and spice. The palate delivers a generous almost 'joosy' flavour profile of youthful inky blackberry and liquorice followed by some confectionary and spicy earth like characters. Fine grained, slightly dryish but balanced tannins. Long blackberry, inky liquorice and spice aftertaste. Another killer value Shiraz from Ben Riggs.
Cellar 4-5 years (2015-2016).
Alc 14.5%
