According to winemaker Ben Jeanneret the 2010 Rank & File Shiraz was the product of a perfect vintage being blended from 5 different vineyards, all but one from the northern part of the Clare Valley. The grapes were picked between the 1st and the 31st March, destemmed but the fruit retained as whole berries, and wild yeast fermented. Time on skins varied from 8 – 28 days and after pressing the wines were aged on lees for two years to provide additional depth, freshness and texture. A mix of French and American oak was used, with only 16% of it new. There was no racking and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration, producing a wine reminiscent of the 2008 release that bolted, leaving some winelovers pining.

An extravagantly rich & hedonistic Clare Valley Shiraz from Jeanneret.

Impenetrable inky black purple colour with very deep black purple hue. The nose is a little closed at first but with some coaxing reveals aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice followed by some confectionary notes. Exuberant, full bodied and super rich the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry and liquorice followed by some dark plum, well integrated toasty oak and spice. Voluptuously textured with velvet smooth tannins. Superb depth with very long and persistent aftertaste of ripe blackberry, liquorice, subtle toasty oak and spice.
Cellar 4-5 years (2016-2017).
