- Closure: Cork
The Goulee vineyard enjoys an extraordinarily temperate climate in which our two main grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (80%) and Merlot (20%) are able grow in superb conditions. Goulee’s geographical position, close to the Atlantic ocean (18km away, as compared to 30km for Pauillac), combined with the incredible width of the estuary (12km wide next to Goulee, compared to 3km at Pauillac), provides exceptional coolness for the vines in the summer, and welcome mildness in the spring and winter. This particularity of the climate gives Goulee’s wines a fruity character, reminiscent of the style of certain New World wines. Notes from the producer. Priced at less than 10% of the price of Cos DEstournel itself, this may well be one of the top values of the vintage.
A sleeper of the vintage, this offering from the owners of Cos d’Estournel is a high quality, impeccably well-made Bordeaux displaying a dark ruby/purple hue along with notes of chocolate, black currants, herbs and spice. Opulent, round and full-bodied, it achieved 14.7% natural alcohol and should drink well for 7-8 years. Drink: 2013 - 2019
Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate # 194 May 2011
Bright and fruity, with raspberry and plums. Full, soft and velvety. Love the acidity.
