Rob Gibson’s Old Vine Collection Barossa Shiraz is sourced from predominately vines that are more than 100 years old with the oldest component planted in the 1860’s. His story began in the early 1980’s when Penfold's Chief winemaker formulated a project to identify the very best quality Shiraz grapes for Grange Hermitage. This ground breaking work developed new assessments about the production of the best Shiraz and connected vineyard block characteristics at verasion and again prior to harvest with the resultant wine characters and wine value. Gibson led the project until he left to start 'Gibson Barossavale Wines' in 1997. He is also the worthy custodian of some of the oldest Shiraz vines on the planet. Describing 2010 as an extraordinary year, Gibson recalls "...it was dry with frost damage in the spring leading to very low yields in the cold northern Barossa. Shiraz character was very fruit driven in flavour".

A sublime Barossa Shiraz that’s gloriously opulent and powerful.

Matured in French oak barrels for 30 months of which 70% were new. Superb saturated inky black colour with a deep dark red black hue. Perfumed aromas of liquorice, dark chocolate, black cherries and vanillin confectionary waft from the glass followed by some mocha and spice. Wonderfully rich and concentrated the palate delivers a powerful flavour profile of liquorice and ripe blackberries that glide across the palate like a satin sheet over a background of vanillin oak, mocha and spice. Beautifully textured with a plush opulent mouthfeel and velvet smooth tannins. Magnificent depth with an exceptionally long liquorice, dark chocolate, vanillin oak, mocha and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 8-10 years.
Alc 14.5%
