Elderton Command Shiraz is a single vineyard wine that has established a formidable international reputation since the first vintage in 1984. The Elderton vineyard is located on the southern edge of the Nuriootpa township and planted on deep alluvial silt over red and brown earth and limestone.

The majority of the rows are orientated east-west (as opposed to the more common orientation of north-south). This enables cooling breezes from the Barossa Ranges to flow through the rows of vines rather than against them. The Command block is planted out with Shiraz vines that are over 100 years old which contributes the monumental layers of flavour and complexity. Matured in a combination of new American and French oak for 30 months and then given a further 12 months bottle age before being released.
The 2010 vintage celebrates 25 years of Elderton Command.

‘A decadently rich and delicious Barossa Shiraz that shows perfect balance and plenty of structure.’

Totally opaque inky black colour with deep dark purple red hue. Hedonistic aromas of ripe blackberries, dark chocolate and liquorice bound from the glass followed by some dark plum, vanillin oak and subtle mocha. Rich and flamboyant with a glossy opulent texture the palate is drenched in ripe blackberry, dark plums and liquorice flavours followed by some dark chocolate, vanillin oak, mocha and spice. Superb power, depth and structure with velvet smooth tannins and a supple plushly textured mouthfeel. Vert long persistent aftertaste of ripe blackberries, dark plum, dark chocolate, vanillin oak, mocha and spice.
Cellar 8-10 years (2022-2024).
Alc 14.8%

Other Reviews…
This truly excellent example of Barossa shiraz comes from vines planted in 1894 and from one of the great vintages of the region. Deeply complex, with dark fruits and a decent splash of well-weighted oak. Blackberry and licorice, spices and dark chocolate are all in this wonderful statement of the best in the Barossa, delivered with a degree of finesse and style.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Command Shiraz shows off pronounced blueberries and dark chocolate aromas laced with Szechuan pepper and Chinese Five Spice plus a touch of menthol. Full-bodied, very structured and still showing the oak, the palate is fresh, very clean and pure with plenty of spice lingering in the long finish.
