Planted in 1945 the Hickinbotham vineyard was established by industry icon Alan Hickinbotham and has been a widely renowned source for some of Australia’s most iconic wines. Dry grown in rocky, red, ironstone rich soils the site’s rows are contoured to the topography, ensuring optimal exposure and consistently produce outstanding fruit. The wine is aged for a period of 18 months in 85% new tight grained French oak barriques with the balance in one to three year oak.

Clarendon Hills Cabernets are (arguably) the very best in Australia.

(Tasted in 2013) A near perfect wine from one of our favourite Cabernet producers. Spectacular totally impenetrable inky black colour with deep dark purple black tinged hue. Powerful brooding aromatics of ripe blackcurrant, dark mulberry and liquorice fill the nostrils followed by some subtle chocolaty cedar and spice nuances. The palate is the most masculine of the 2010 Clarendon Hills Cabernets trio delivering a luxurious flavour profile of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and liquorice followed by hints of cedar and spice. The firm, assertive tannin structure is well concealed beneath the wealth of fruit. Outstanding depth and persistence with exceptionally long aftertaste of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, subtle liquorice & spicy cedar. A palate staining Cabernet of monumental proportions. Cellar 10-15 years.
Alc 14.5%
