While La Rose Mayat is located in the Cotes de Castillon, the wines benefit from the Puisseguin Saint Emilion appellation. Frederic Dufour tends to the 3.5 Ha of this small family estate that has been on our radar in recent years. Having missed out last year on a last minute allocation of the fabulous 2009, we made sure to get our hands on the equally appealing 2010s. This is another classic claret that punches above its weight with excellent freshness and silky Merlot tannins.

A contender for the best in bargain category.

Superb opaque inky black dark crimson colour with deep dark crimson black tinged hue. The nose shows good lift with ripe blackcurrant top notes followed by more subtle nuances of cedar, earth and spice. Medium weight with good richness and an elegant refined mouthfeel the palate possesses flavours of ripe blackcurrant, a touch of liquorice, cedary cigar box like characters and spice. Slightly dryish but very fine grained tannins impart some chewiness on the finish. Long blackcurrant, cedar, subtle earth and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years (2019-2020).
