One of the most consistent wines in Australia over the last 20 years must be Best’s Bin 0, still produced from the four original Shiraz plantings in the low yielding blocks of the historic Concongella vineyard at Great Western. Vintage after vintage, this monument to Victorian history holds its ground or even excels. In 2010 it achieves the latter with aplomb.
Opaque black crimson red colour with deep crimson purple hue. Attractive and perfumed, aromas of blackberry, liquorice and dark plum leap out of the glass followed by some vanillin confectionary characters and light white pepper end notes. The palate possesses good body weight and plenty of richly textured fruit but in typical Bin 0 fashion is elegantly built. Mouthfilling flavours of blackberry, blackpepper and liquorice with some underlying toasty vanillin oak and spice characters. Super fine grained velvet like tannins that are perfectly interwoven with the fruit. Very long blackpepper, blackberry, liquorice and spice aftertaste.
