The Ata Rangi Crimson Pinot Noir is sourced primarily from 10 to 20 year old vines, compared to 30 years plus for the flagship Ata Rangi Pinot Noir. It is made in a style intended for enjoying within a few years of the vintage. Hand picked fruit is 100% de-stemmed keeping as much whole berry as possible intact. Two to Seven days pre-fermentation maceration with Indigenous yeast used and hand plunging takes place throughout ferment. Two weeks total tank time with complete malolactic fermentation in barrel. Maturation takes place in French oak (20% new) for a period of 9 months.Semi translucent crimson red colour with crimson red mauve hue. The nose displays perfumed aromas of violets, dark cherry, strawberry and spice. Light to medium weight the palate is quite generous with mouthfilling flavours of dark cherry, strawberry and anise followed by some spicy cedar on the back palate. Excellent power wave. Dry finish but super fine grained tannins. Long persistent aftertaste of dark cherry, cedar and spice.
