The perennial bargain Shiraz

Winemaker Ben Riggs is ecstatic about the quality of his 2009 reds and from what we’ve seen thus far we’d have to agree. Right across the board, whether it be Penny’s Hill, Mr Riggs or the Tatiarra wines from Heathcote, it appears to be a stellar vintage. The newly released Three Brothers Reunited Shiraz is no exception. Ben recently included this ‘entry level’ wine in a line up for a prominent Adelaide retailer who upon tasting it assumed that it was in the A$20-$30 bracket. When Riggs told him it was a $10 red he was gobsmacked.

If not the best Three Brothers Shiraz ever, it’s certainly one that will be difficult to repeat and whichever way you look at it, a remarkable bottle of wine for the price

Tasting note....
Superb colour for a quaffing red. Opaque black crimson colour with deep dark crimson red black hue. The nose displays aromas of blackberry, plum and confectionary followed by some spice notes and a hint of toast. As with previous vintages of Three Brothers the palate boasts a level of richness and depth far beyond it’s miserly $10 price point. Excellent weight, with very generous mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry, dark plum, liquorice and confectionary followed by a spicy blackpepper back palate. Super fine grained, almost velvet like tannins with long aftertaste of blackberry, dark plum and blackpepper along with a hint of toast.
Drink over the next 4-5 years (2010-2015).
Alc 14.5%
