Named after Stuart Blackwell, senior winemaker at St. Hallett since 1973, this is yet another superb release under the Blackwell label which is now firmly entrenched as a Benchmark Barossa Shiraz. The fruit is exclusively sourced from the North and Western slopes of the Barossa Valley where the vines are typically low yielding producing highly concentrated berries. Parcels of fruit for the Blackwell Shiraz are matured in a combination of new, one and two year old American oak for 20 months, with several rackings taking place during that time. Blending occurs a month before bottling and the wine is coarse filtered into bottle to avoid the stripping of flavour and colour.

A very stylish Barossa Shiraz that beautifully juxtaposes Barossa’s renown richness, concentration and power with a sense of refinement.

Totally opaque black dark purple colour with deep dark purple red hue. The nose is very perfumed with top notes of blackberry, dark plum and liquorice followed by some confectionary and vanillin notes. Full bodied and concentrated yet quite elegant, poised and refined for a Barossa Shiraz, the palate delivers a mouthfilling flavour experience with ripe blackberry and dark plum to the fore followed by some dark chocolate, liquorice allsorts and spice. Velvet smooth perfectly integrated tannin structure. Superb depth and persistence with long aftertaste of blackberry, dark plum, dark chocolate and spice.
Drink over the next 5-6 years (2011-2017).
