A great value Cabernet that delivers an abundance of fully ripened Coonawarra fruit.

Winemaker Ben Riggs has produced an outstanding Coonawarra Cabernet from the superb 2009 vintage. The fruit was sourced from his good mate Kym Tolley’s renowned Penley Estate vineyard consisting of 22 year old vines. Picked on different days to allow for optimum ripening, parcels of fruit for this Coonawarra Cabernet were separately fermented in 7 and 8 tonne open fermenters. On-skin fermentation was completed before pressings were sent to barrel for 13-17 months to complete fermentation in a combination of 45% new American and French oak.

Totally opaque black crimson colour with black crimson red hue. The nose displays lifted aromas of ripe blackcurrant and violets followed by some cedar and spice. A classic Coonawarra sniff. Medium to full bodied the palate is loaded with ripe blackcurrant fruit which is followed by some mulberry, spice and underlying cedar. Very fine grained beautifully integrated tannins. Excellent structure and depth with long aftertaste of ripe blackcurrant, cedar and spice.
