The Marchesi Mazzei have been figures of the Tuscan cultural, political and commercial landscape since the 15th century and their involvement in winemaking can be traced back to the 11th century in the area of Carmignano. The Sangiovese and Merlot grapes for the "Badiola" come from the Castello di Fonterutoli in the heart of the Chianti region. Although the finished wine benefits from the "Toscana" geographical indication, its makers consider it a the proper introduction to the Fonterutoli philosophy and therefore, the same level of dedication is applied as with the 'Chianti Classico'.

Produced from 70% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged for approximately 9 months in oak barrels. Very deep dark red colour with dark crimson red hue. The nose exhibits aromas of dark cherry, ripe plum, leather, earth and spice. Medium bodied the palate possesses good richness with generous flavours of ripe dark cherry and black plum followed by some earthy cedar and spice. Slightly dryish finish with fine grained tannin structure. Good length with long black cherry, plum, earthy cedar and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 2-3 years (2014-2015).
Alc 13.5%
