As with films, Heartland’s Director’s Cut is regarded as the definitive version – no compromises are made with only the very best parcels of Shiraz selected from each vintage. The fruit for the 2009 vintage was sourced predominately from mature Langhorne Creek vineyards (25-30 years old) with balance coming from the Limestone Coast. In the vineyard a strict hand pruning method – vendange verte (green harvest) is employed involving the removal of selected bunches of green grapes before maturity, which reduces yield, and allows maximum concentration of flavour and colour in the remaining berries. Maturation took place in a combination of French (80%) and American oak (20%), all of which was new, for a period of 14 months.

Another very impressive Director’s Cut from winemaking supremo Ben Glaetzer.

Outstanding super saturated opaque black purple colour with black heart and very deep black purple hue. The nose displays intense but youthful aromas of blackberry, black cherry, aniseed and mocha followed by some toast and a hint of clove. Decadently rich and opulent the palate displays mouthfilling flavours of blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and mocha followed by some spice and toast characters on the back palate. Super fine grained tannin structure in perfect balance. Superb length with very long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice, spice and toast.
