A stunning Barossa Grenache.

“El Abuelo” is the Spanish term for ’Grandfather’ and this wine is both a dedication to the winemaker's Grandfather, Gerhard, who first planted the Glaymond vineyards in 1961 and a reference to Damien Tscharke's choice of cultivar - the Grenache grape being an important component of Spain's world famous Riojas. Can only Damien Tscharke pull off Barossa Grenache this good?

A unique expression?

Maturation took place in a combination of new and seasoned French oak for a period of 23 months. The opaque deep dark crimson red colour and dark red hue are remarkable for the varietal while the nose is literally perfumed, exuding aromas of ripe dark raspberry, dark plum, liquorice and confectionary. Likewise, the intensity and depth of flavour are rarely experienced in Grenache. Full bodied, generous, ripe raspberry, liquorice allsorts, dark chocolate and confectionary flavours fill the mouth accompanied by a spicy flourish. Velvet-like tannins melt into a long, ripe raspberry, liquorice allsorts, confectionary and spice
aftertaste; yet for all its fruit weight and ripeness this wine maintians sufficient freshness.
